Nothing more u uremiantic in the history of the peerage is imaginable than the homecoming of the Karl of Egjuont to the family estate at Avon Castle (Hampshire). A newspaper man was the only person at the station. “ Ain’t anybody here from the castle?” the carl asked, as lie stepped into Ringwood station. When answered in the negative he thrust hisbands into his pockets and said ; “ Well, 1 daresay f ain’t wanted much here. Where shall 1 stay?” The newspaper man conducted him to an hotel and asked him when he was going to the castle. He said, ‘‘ Well, T guess I won’t crowd in to-night. I’ll take a shack here until to-morrow.” Then he disappeared into a 'small hotel. —Australian Press Association. [The Earl, who recently succeeded to the title, was Mr E. J. T. Perceval, fifty-five years of age. .He was a rancher■ in a remote part of Canada.]
