WATER SUPPLY

CITY ENGINEER'S REPORT REQUEST BY CR MITCHELL The report which the. city engineer is preparing on the city water supply with the view to increasing the storage capacity was referred to by Cr Mitchell at the meeting of the City Council last night. (Jr Mitchell pointed out that the public of Dunedin was deeply interested in tllo matter and asked if it were possible to get a preliminary report dealing with water storage and the augmentation of the supply. Continual reference was being made to the urgency of the need. They had waited a long time for the report, and, while he knew it was n difficult job, and know that the engineer was wise in taking a long time, ho thought an interim report might be, made. Cr J3egg, the chairman of the AVater Committee, said it was a difficult matter to bring out an interim report on such a subject, but he would discuss it with the engineer and see what could be done. Some time ago, said Cr Begg, a complaint had come from the borough of St. Kilda that there was a shortage of water. The City Council’s officers had investigated and found that the fault was not on the city side of the water meter through which the water went to St. Kilda. There must bo something wrong with the reticulation on the St. Kilda side.
