GOLF

The monthly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Golf Association was held at the secretary’s office at Wellington on Monday, when there were present:—Messrs W. E. A. Gil! (chairman), A. D. S. Duncan, M. J. Crombie, W. A. Kiely, and G. O. Sutton (secretary). The financial statement showed amounts in the bank and on deposit totalling £535 9s. With regard to the 1929 championship meeting, it was decided to have the Belmont course inspected early in May by a professional appointed by the association. The definite date of the inspection will be decided early next month. It was resolved to again notify the clubs that where a new standard scratch score has been fixed at a lower figure than the old bogey for the course, handicaps of all members are to be adjusted by adding the number of strokes by which the bogey has been reduced. John Lambie was reappointed as the association’s professional for a further twelve months on the same terms as last year. James Walt wrote resigning his appointment to tour the clubs in the far north, and it was resolved to make inquiries regard! g another professional whose name has been submitted. With regard to the Kirk-Windeyer Cup matches to be played in August next in Melbouxuie, it was resolved to write to tlm Victorian Golf Association with a view to making preliminary arrangements. The Queensland Golf Association wrote asking for full particulars as to this association’s method of collecting revenue as its association desires to adopt a similar policy. The secretary reported that full particulars had been sent, togethc- with a balance-sheet and annual report.’ Particulars were received from the Lucifer Golfing Society, London, regarding a competition being arranged in London for all overseas golfers with' handicaps of 18 or under who car© to enter. The competition is to be played on Walton Heath, Surrey, on June 26 and 27, and lull particulars have been sent by the Lucifer Golfing Society to all affiliated clubs in Nexv Zealand.
