SEED AND NURSERY TRADE PICNIC

On Monday last about 100 persons, comprising those connected with the seed, nursery, and florist trade, and their friends, were conveyed in Corporation buses, and private cars to Karitane, where the local seedsmen were holding their annual picnic. The weather being fairly favourable, an enjoyable outing was spent by all. Undoubtedly the success of flic day was due to "the excellent arrangements ma.de by the seedsmen, who had a keen worker in their secretary, Mr Mathesoa. A good sports programme was carried out, giving satisfaction to onlookers and competitors, alike. Mr J. Rennie presented the prizes, and took the opportunity of thanking the seedsmen for tho invitation to be present extended to nurserymen and friends. Mrs Skene and Mrs Bennett presented tiie cups donated by Messrs Skenos, Ltd., and Mr H. Bennett. Tho dominion secretary, Mr George Green, was a welcome visitor during the day. The following is the list of events decided:— Youths, 18 and Under.—J. Wiuslou 1, Vic. Gaston 2. Single Ladies. —Hilda Haley 1, Lena Bennett 2. Ladies (Seedsmen’s and Florists’ Employees).—Minnie Lucas 1, Alice Jackson 2. Nurserymen’s Race (Skene Trophy). —T. Y. Turner 1, J. Marshall 2. Quoits. —A 7 ic. Gaston I, Mis-ses Ridley and Rogers and Messrs Page, I. Skene, J. M’Kechnie, and W. J. Thomson 2 (equal).
