‘ROSES OF PICARDY’

A BRITISH ACHIEVEMENT Considerable interest has centred on the forthcoming screening of the big British production ‘Roses o/l icardy at the Octagon Theatre on Friday. Based on R. H. Mottram’s J muons novel, ‘The Spanish Farm, and the hitherto unpublished story ‘GI-91/ it is regarded as one ol the most remarkable war books yet written. Technically the work throughout the whole production has been handled in a, masterly manner. The episodes of the actual lighting in the film—the night attack with creeping barrage—the big German push of RUB, when Ear! Haig sent forth his lumens “Backs to tho wall” message to the British troops—are high lights ol; tins production. The story has boon mteiwoven in a- manner which loses none of its charm and psychology, and is not cast in the conventional mould of American war dramas. /J ho him lias one of tho most impressive finales yet seen in tho motion pictures.
