POLICE COURT

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. A male first offender, who was ■ arrested in Bond street on Sunday, was lined 10s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. BY-LAW CASES. Hugh Samuel Eccles, for riding a bicycle without a light, was lined os, with costs. Francis Gordon pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a motor lorry without a license.—Senior Sergeant Quartermain said that this charge was the result of a collision. When the matter was investigated it was discovered that the defendant had no license.—The Defendant stated that lie Lad not been driving for two years. He was fined 10s, with costs. George Herring, for lighting a fire in tho open, without a permit, was convicted and discharged. MAINTENANCE. Hector M'Kcliar Fraser, who did not appear, was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, the arrears of which amounted to £lO 5s on January 28. Ho was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment, to be released on payment of_ arrears. Francis Rringlo was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, arrears of which amounted to £l4 8s on December 14, 1928.—Mr B. S. Irwin said that the defendant had paid £5 since that date.—The defendant was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended on the payment of the current order and 5s per week in respect to the arrears. Richard William Dixon, who did not appear, was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, tho arrears of which amounted to £l3 17s on January 21. Ho was sentenced 1o or.o month’s imprisonment, to ho released on payment of arrears.

Charles Niepcr was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, tho arrears to January 14 amounting to £Bl ss.—Defendant stated that he had had only casual work and was not able lo keep up his payments. He was sixtythree years of age.—After hearing further evidence His Worship decided to remit arrears over £2O and to reduce the order to 20s a week. He would adjourn the case for a month; and if on the adjourned dato ho was not satisfied defendant was doing his best to obtain work, defendant would he sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment.

Defendant was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment, the warrant to bo suspended provided defendant paid 25s a week off tho current order and 5s a week off the arrears. '
