The Foreign Secretary (Sir Austen Chamberlain), in the House of Commons to-day, said that instructions were being sent to the British Ambassador in Lisbon to request the , Portuguese Government to order a revision of the ease of Brewer, the second officer of the steamer Clan Lament, who, after his arrest on a charge of theft of LI, was imprisoned for nine months while awaiting trial in Portuguese West Africa, and was then condemned to 36U days’ imprisonment and ordered to pay a tine of £lB or undergo another ninety days’ imprisonment.
