The Governmen forces dislodged the rebels and are now pursuing them. The legation denied that the Mohmands joined the Shinwaris; on the contrary, they are
fighting for the Government. The Sninwaris were compelled to retreat near Jalalabad. The Government is still attempting to conciliate the Shinwaris. DELHI, December 29. The news from Kabul states that, after a heavy bombardment on Boxing Day, many buildings, including the power house, were wrecked by shell fire. An Afghan watchman in the legation was killed and two gardeners were wounded. The opposing lorces used the legation walls as a cover. The rebels captured two ammunition dumps at Paghman. Tbo tribesmen near the Indian irontier have quietened, and the KurramParachinar route has been reopened. Jalalabad is still surrounded by rebels. The city food supplies have been cut off.
