SOAKING RAIN
AUCKLAND SPORT SPOILED [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 23. Steady, soaking rain throughout the day spoilt all outdoor fixtures in Auckland to-day. The races were held in very .trying conditions, with a small attendance and another large drop in the totalisatur investments. The New Zealand lawn tennis championship tournament again had to bo postponed, and also the Auckland bowling tourney. Rain is still Mailing, and the conditions are not at all promising for tomorrow’s fixtures, including the second day of the Auckland trots. Cargo work ou the waterlront has been interfered with, and several vessels have been delayed, including the Ulimaroa, the sailing of which lor Sycl,noy lias been postponed until to-mor-row morning. Nearly three inches of rain have fallen in twenty-four hours, no loss than three-quarters of an inch in two hours.
BIG DROP IN “TOTE" RECEIPTS
[Special to tub ‘Star.'] AUCKLAND, December 29. Wet weather lias greatly affected the summer racing and trotting carnivals, and there has been a large decline in the attendance. The totalisator receipts for the three days to dale have fallen £90,516 compared with the corresponding days of 1927.
