On Thursday evening, at choir practice, the members of All Saints’ choir took the opportunity of presenting an antique smoker’s companion to Mr P. Folwoll, a member of tho choir, who ia to be married shortly. In making tho presentation tho choirmaster (Mr W. Lilly) commented on Mr Folwell’s services to the choir in tno past, and said that though joining the ranks of tho benedicts, he hoped the recipient would continue to eing in tho choir. Detective Farquharson, who has been promoted to tho Hawke’s Bay polico district, was tho recipient of a presentation at tho Central Police Station yesterday. Chicf-dctectivo Cameron, who made tho presentation on behalf of both branches of the service, paid a tribute to the efficiency and devotion to duty which had characterised Detective Faiquharaon’s stay in Dunedin, and referred to the great service he had performed in connection with the recent Kyburn murder. (Sergeant Boulton spoke on behalf of tho uniformed police. Chief-detcotivo Cameron then handed to Detective Farquharson a solid leather suit case, and a bat box and umbrella for Mr* Farquharson. Detective Farquharson expects to leave for Hawko’a Bay early in January, At a largely-attended gathering of representative citizens held at Timaru yesterday recognition was mado of the pullio services of Mr F. J. Bolleston, ottending over a period of twenty-one years. Mr Kolleston was presented with s gold watch and chain and a silver salver and silver toaset. Many complimentary speeches were mado by representatives of local govern- 1 ing bodies and others. Inspector A. S. Bird, who has been in . charge of tho Southland police district for the past, four years, has been appointed to the vacancy at Timaru, caused by tho death of Inspector T. Kemp. Inspector Bird will bo succeeded by Inspector J. Fahey, of Dunedin. Out of a largo number of applicants Mr A. C. Logan, 8.A., has been appointed assistant master in the secondary department at John M’Glashan College. He was educated at tho Otago Boys’ High School, and has had a distinguished career at Otago University. Mr William Arthur Harlow, of Clyde, has been admitted by Hi* Honour Mr Justice MacGregor as a barrister of the Supreme Court. Mr Alan D. Carson is expected to return to New Zealand by the Aprangi on December 31, after an extensive tour of England and the United States.
‘ Miss Ray Jackson has returned to Dunedin after a year’s holiday in the north, and will shortly announce her intention, of talcing a limited number of pupils after the holiday season. The many friends of Mr H. E. Spence will be pleased to learn that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery from the serious operation which ho underwent last week at Braemar Private Hospital. On Wednesday, prior to the “break-up ” of the Macandrew Road School, the pupils of Standard VI. mado a pleasing presentation as the final act in their primary school course. Master Douglas Georgeson, selected by the class as their representative, expressed to Mr A. H. Robinson, their class teacher, the esteem and affection of both boys and girls, and their appreciation of the earnest, kindly manner in which Mr Robinson had directed their studies during tho year. They asked Miss Margaret Finder to band to Mr Robinson a set of military brushes on behalf of tho class.
