Ruapehu, s.s. (12.10 p.m.), 9,018 tons, A. tV. M'Kellar, for Lyttelton. ARRlVED.—December 22. Katoa, s.s. (5 a.m.), 2,484 tons, Bilton, from Auckland via JJlnll. With general cargo for discharge from Auckland via ports, the Katoa arrived from Bluff this morning. She is timed to sail at 4.30 to-day lor Auckland, via ports. The Calm sailed last evening lor Wanganui, via ports. After completing discharge of her Pacific Coast cargo tbo American steamer Golden Cloud sailed last evening for Honolulu and San Francisco. The Karctu is now timed to leave Lyttelton on Thursday to discharge a quantity of Newcastle coal at Dunedin, Bluff, and Tiniaru, and also load general cargo for Sydney. Tbo Waipiata was to leave Wellington to-day for Lyttelton, Tiniaru, Oamarn, and Dunedin, The Kawatiri left Sydney at 11 p.m. on Thursday for Dunedin direct. Him is due here on Wednesday, and alter discharge proceeds to Lyttelton. The Opilii is expected to leave Bluli on Monday for Dunedin' to discharge coal from Westport before proceeding to Lyttelton. Tho Kurow leaves Auckland on Friday next for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin, and will bring limit ex tho Tofu a. 'Tbo New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Rumera is now duo”at 'Wellington on January 1 from London and Southampton, via Madiera and Panama. The vessel is bringing passengers for New Zealand, and cargo for discharge at ■Wellington and Auckland. Tho R.M.S. Tahiti, which left Wellington on December 4, was duo at Sau Francisco yesterday. She will leave on December 26 for Sydney, via Papeete, Rarotonga, and Wellington. TARANAKI AT WANGANUI. Tho Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company reports that tbo Taranaki arrived in tho Wanganui roadstead on Tuesday from New Plymouth. She was due at Wellington yesterday, and will leave that port on .December 31 fov Timaru and Port Chalmers to complete loading for London. TREKIEVE FROM NEW YORK. Advice received by Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. states that the A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer Trekicvo left New York on December 12, and Newport News tho following day for New Zealand. Tho vessel is bringing American cargo for discharge at Auckland, 'Wellington, Lyttelton, and .Dunedin She is duo at Auckland about January 20, and at this port about February 3. AN HONOURED CAPTAIN. When tho White Star liner Olympic arrived at Southampton from New York on September 6 her commander, Captain W. H. Parker, was officially notified that ho had been selected to lay a wreath on the Cenotaph in London at the Armistice Day services. Jn the uniform of a White Star Line commander ho appeared at the ceremony with tho King and Queen, as the sole representative of tho Mercantile Marine of tho Allied Rowers. Wreaths also were placed upon tho Cenotaph by representatives of tho Army and Navy. The honour of representing the merchant service was conferred upon Captain Parker by tho British Board of Trade, his name having been presented to that body by tbo Honourable Company of Master Mariners. Captain Parker, who is a member of tho Royal Naval Reserve, succeeded Captain William Marshall recently as commander of the Olympic when the, latter took command of the Majestic on tho retirement from sea duty of Captain George 11. The intercolonial steamer Manuka is duo at Bluff at midnight on Sunday, and is expected to leave there at iiuon on. Monday. Slio is duo hero about 11 jT.ni. on Monday to land passengers and discharge cargo from Melbourne, before sailing at -1 p.m. on Thursday for Lyttelton, Wellington, and Melbourne. RUAPEHU SAJLS. The,New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the liner Ruapehu left Port Chalmers to-day for Lyttelton, Napier, and New Plymouth to put out (ho remainder of her London cargo. She will commence loading at New Plymouth, and will subsequently load at Nelson, Auckland, Lyttelton, and Wellington. Tlio vessel is duo at Wellington’on January 21, ami will leave that port mi January 20 for Southampton and,.London, via Panama and Curacao. PORT OE LONDON IMPROVEMENTS. An agreement has been reached as to tlio terms upon which the Victoria dock road improvement scheme jvrepared by the Ministry of Transport is to ho carried out. Tlio estimated cost by the Ministry is £2,518,000, and the Cevernment will lind from tho road fund £1,880.000 on tho basis of a 75 per cent, grant, leaving £630,000 to bo provided by the local authorities involved. The improvement scheme involves tlio widening of East India dock road from Leamouth road eastwards to a width of 84ft, tlio removal of the old tortuous iron bridge, and building of a now structure 84 ft wide in nearly direct alignment with tho Barking road on tho other side of tho Lea. In association with tlio work which tho Port of London Authority is carrying out, this road improvement scheme should go far to improve communication between London and the Homo counties, the sea, and tho world’s markets.
