In Australia Pearo© is regarded as unbeatable, but New Zealanders are confident that Jackson will give the Olympic champion a great rach, even if ho does not win. If Pearce is as good as some of his admirers claim him to be, he must be equal to tile very best. Cabling froin Sydney 10-day W. Webb, adds, however that Jackson did a very satisfactory trial over the full course, and is roiving very well. Webb has been favourably impressed with Pearce’s sculling, and realises that the latter will have the advantages in being better boated and having more experience ; but he expects the Now Zealander to make a. great race of it, and if he is able to do himself justice Webb will not be surprised to see him win if the water is smooth.
