COLLEGE OARSMEN CHRIST’S COLLEGE BEATS . WANGANUI. v (Sncuii to the * Stab.'] WANGANUI, December : 18. The annual foar-onred boat race, Wanganui Collegiate School versus Christ’s College, was rowed hero .this morning. The weather . was glorious and the water in perfect order. ! The visitors, with a last rate of striking, jumped into the lead quickly. When they had settled down Christ’s College were rowing 36 to the minute, with Wanganui, at a shade slower rate of stroke, half a length away. The visitors were rowing well together, their catch being clean, with plenty of power in it. Wanganui also wore going well now, and after the half-mile was covered began to overhaul the loaders. However, Christ’s College had a slight lead a quarter of a mile from home. The local crew hero began to tire, and the visitors forged ahead to win a splendid race by a length and a-quar-ter. The winners rowed well throughout, their solid catch being a feature, and there was more life in their boat than in that of their opponents, though the Wanganui boys rowed gamely to the end. The winners had > the course on the town side of the river, but there was no advantage either way, and the better crew on the day won. Great interest was taken in the contest, which was witnessed by a large number of rowing enthusiasts.
