'THE MERRY WIDOW'

A CSWB ATTRACTION A picture which should prove of special interest to all movie fans is ‘The Merry Widow,’ which opens shortly at the Octagon Theatre. \V hen Metro-Goldwy n-Mayer ’ s director of ‘ The Merry Widow ’ came to the Coronation scene ho was so pleased with the brilliant, colourful “set” that he decided to present it to patrons in its original colours. Tho Coronation takes place in the cathedral of Montcblanco, fictitious kingdom of the Balkans, and all tho State notabilities, society, and the personal friends of tho young Royal lovers attend in great numbers, making a brilliant assemblage. Dashing John Gilbert plays the part of Prince Danilo, whoso passionate love transports little Sally O’Hara, an obscure dancing girl, into the seventh heaven of delight. In tho scenes in which he jilts her Gilbert is so wretched the onlooker will sympathise with him—as in the scenes of gay Parisian social abandon his furious jealousy of the woman ho adores will make them long for the merry widow to give him back her heart.- Supporting Gilbert in this epic of musical comedy-drama arc Key D’Arcy as tho Crown Prince, whoso interpretation of that deceptive Royal prince is most convincing; Mao Murray, as Solly O’Haro; Tully Marshall, ns Baron Sadoja; George Fawcett, ns King Nikita; Josephine Crowell, as tho Queen; and many other talented players. ‘ The Merry Widow ’ will doubtless captivate the young picturegoers of to-day as it will call again to tho old playgoers. Another treat in store tor patrons will bo the presentation of tho original ‘ Merry Widow ’ music by tho Octagon Orchestra.
