SURFING DANGERS
NARROW ESCAPES AT SYDNEY Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, November 25. As a result of easterly gales there was a tremendous surf at Coogee and Bondi to-day. The life-saving brigade rescued a dozen bathers who had been carried out to sea, some in a half-dead condition. They were resuscitated by ambulance men. A. New Zealander caused a diversion by swimming in the danger zone nearly 300yds from the shore. The life-savers went after him, hut ho leisurely came ashore on top of huge breakers, and when reproved by the surf brigade men because of the risks of sharks and the undertow, he calmly retorted: “Why, we think nothing of going that far cut in Now Zealand/’ The name of the New Zealander is Ronald Webster, of Auckland.
