OLD BOYS V. CAMS BROOK
Old Boys emerged from its second tnatch in senior ranks with another win to its credit, Carisbrook being defeated by 113 runs on the first innings. Carishrook had compiled 133 the previous Saturday, Old Boys losing four wickets for 97, which was carried to 246. Carisbrook at one stage in its second strike, looked as if it would bo Lard put to avert a three-points defeat; hut a fighting innings of 28 by the consistent Cameron, 25 not out by M'Lcod, and 19 not ouj by Lynch saved the day, seven wickets having fallen for 133 when stumps were.drawn. Tho sensation of the afternoon was tho bowling of Dickinson, who took three wickets for IS runs. Ho performed a hat trick, and would probably have finished up with sensational figures had ho not had to leave 1J hours before time. H. C. Alloo. finished with four for 62, though one or two of hie overs were costly, A. W. Alloo contributed an attractive 51 for Old Boys, and Duncan was associated in a good last-wicket stand, carrying his bat for 35. Blunt took three wickets for 45 runs. Carisbrook Ground was in good order, but towards the close of the day tho wicket was .wearing a bit. When play was resumed Old Boys had lost four wickets for 97, Leader (13) and A. W. Alloo (0) being the not out batsmen, who opened_to tho bowling of Blunt from tho pavilion end, Spackman bowling from the Hillside end- Buns came fairly steadily, but ißleai who was swinging a good deal, was treated with respect by Alloo, who fi.und some difficulty in getting on to tho leg stuff. Blunt effected some rapid changes in tho bowling, and Cameron, who replaced Blunt, brought about Leader’s dismissal, tho latter being out Ibw. 119—5—21, Smith partnered Alloo, who commenced to open cut, despatching Cameron to fine leg for 4, and driving tho next ball to tho on boundary. .Alloo was doing most of tho scoring, and he put Old Boys ahead by glancing Blunt to square leg for 4. Procter was given a turn at tho pavilion end, and Alloo sent him to the leg pickets Alloo raado some fine straight driven to tho boundary, but lost Smith after the latter had scored 9, Douglas taking his off stump. 154—6—9. Hood joined Alloo, who lifted Douglas to the off boundary. Hood made only 1, and was clean bowled by Cameron. 163—-7—l. Latimer partnered Alloo, but lost him a littlo later, Blunt bring- 1 ing about his dismissal. 178—f?—cl. Alloo was at the wickets fifty-eight minutes. M‘Rae joined Latimer, who presented the full face of tho bat to Blunt and made some good, hard drives, being caught by Gourley behind the wickets off Spackman, who had replaced Douglas, with the score reading igß_9 15. Duncan became associated with M‘Eae, and this pair made a fine last wicket stand, which added 58. Duncan hit three 4’s off one of Spackman’s overs, his 35 including five 4s, mainly scored to the off. M'Crao batted steadily for 24, being bowled by Blunt. 246—10—24. Old Boys batted 223 minutes. r . . Douglas and Cameron were Cansbrook’s opening pair, tho attack being in tho hands of Dickinson and A. W. •Alloo. Douglas made some nice drives thiough the covers, but was clean bowled by Dickinson with a ball that kept low and shot in. 36—1—-16. Dickinson was dead on the wicket, and bowlin'* well, and Priest was out ibw to the next ball. 36-2-0. Dickinson completed a brilliant bat trick with the next ball, which took Gourloy’s off pm. ■BG 3—o. Blunt came in, and notched 10, including a. couple of nice 4’s, when he was well caught,by H. C. Alloo off ids own bowling. 60—4—10. Cameron was batting very soundly, and made some nice drives, but Spackman just failed to reach double figures when he was caught at long on by Smith off •Alloo. 62—5 9. Allen opened attractively, but after making 7 ho was clean bowled by H. C. Alloo. 77—6—7. M'Leod joined Cameron, who continued to bat steadily, but with the score at 94 Cameron was stumped by Duncan in going out to H. C. Alloo. 94 7 r B. Lynch became associated with M'Leod, who square cut H. C. Alloo for 4, and reached tho leg boundary, with the next one, M'Lcod drove Gale, who replaced A. W. Alloo, to the off boundary, this putting Carisbrook ahead; Lynch started to open out, and in the last over off H. 0. Alloo notched three 4’s and a brace, stumps being drawn with the score 133 for seven wickets.
