MANCHESTER UNITY
Tho fortnightly meeting of tho Loyal Caversham Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., on Wednesday evening was fairly well attended, the N.G., Bro. Jackson, presiding. Ono candidate was initiated and two [proposals for membership received. Nominations for officers for tho ensuing term were opened and adjourned till next meeting. P.G. BroHey reported attending tho opening of a new female lodge at Ranfuriy, and P.G. Bro. Lunam reported representing the lodge at the official visit to tho Loyal Princess Victoria Lodge (Milton) Bro. Campbell was appointed librarian to the lodge. A degree meeting was held during the evening, the G.M., Bro. Emerson, delivering the lectures. A meeting of the Management Committee was also held to discuss several matters of interest. A member of the Loyal Albion Lodge responded to 0 o toast of visiting brethren.
The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Tuapeka Pioneer Lodge attracted a good attendance of members. Permission was granted by the District Executive to change the date of the nest ordinary meeting to Saturday, December 1, in order to enable the lodge to entertain tho members of tho Loyal Tapanui Lodge, who aro paying an official visit on that date. Tho visit, which is greatly appreciated by the local members, should prove beneficial to both lodges. Nominations for the offices were held over until next lodge night. Printed reports of tho half-yearly meeting were received and distributed. P.G. Bro. Hart reported attending tho opening of tho Loyal Queen ol Mamototo Lodge at Ranfuriy, referring to the enthusiasm and the splendid arrangements in connection with tho function.
The Loyal Albion Lodge met on Thursday evening the N.G., Bro. W. Lougworth presiding over a fairly good attendance of members and visiting brethren. A motion of sympathy with the wifo of the late Bro. Pringle, who was a member of the lodge for a number of years, was earned, members standing in silence as a tribute to the late broother’s memory.' A discussion on the early records and history of the lodge ensued, and a committee was set up_ to look into and compile such history. It was decided to forward a congratulatory letter to Bro, W. J. Davey, who recently completed his fiftieth year of membership. It was also decided to forward a congratulatory letter to Bro. W. B. Taverner on the occasion of his being elected a member of the House of Representatives. A photo of the late P.G. Bro. H. Mann, who was for many years a trustee of the lodge, is to be procured and hung in the lodge room, P.P.G.M Bro. P. Stabb gave an interesting account of the opening of tho new female lodge at Ranfurly, stating that tho new branch of the order was successfully inaugurated, with a membership of twenty-four, and that a large number of visiting brethren, including the District Executive, attended tho function in connection with the approaching eightieth anniversary of the order in Otago. It was announced that the proposed picnic at Quarantine Island had been reluctantly abandoned owing to shortness of time, and that the committee was concentrating on an “old-timers’” evening, at which members of over forty years’ standing would be the guests. _ This would be ‘held in coniuction with the meeting of the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge. P.G. Bro E. Downes was appointed V.G., in place of Bro. Horwood. (resigned). Keen competition ensued for various offices in the lodge, and nominations were adjourned till next meetin,". Visiting members from Loyal Centenary Milton, and Dunedin, acknowledged the toast of visiting brethren. The N.G. Bro. Allen presided over the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Roxburgh Lodge, at which there was a fair attendance of members. The Prov, Treasurer, Bro. Sligo, was present, and was warmly welcomed by the N.G. on behalf of tho lodge. One candidate was initiated and one proposed. One member was granted a clearance to the Loyal Upper Clutha Lodge. Tho secretary was instructed to convey to the brethren of the Upper Clutha Lodge appreciation of the hospitality extended to members on the occasion of the official visit. Tho toast of the District Executive was responded to by P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Sligo. Several members spoke in glowing terms of the success of the official visit to the Loyal Upper Clutha Lodge, which was attended by thirty members of the Roxburgh Lodge. A large number ol members from the Loyal Vincent Lodge, together with several brethren from city lodges, augmented the attendance; P.P.G.M. Bro. Sligo, representing the District Executive. The local lodge was present in full force, and the N.G., Bro. Brooks, supported by P.P.G.M. Bro. Goughian, extended a cordial welcome to the visiting brethren. Stirring speeches were delivered by P.P.G.M.’s Lawry, Clark, and Sligo, and the meeting closed with cheers for the visitors, after which a dance was held. The following morning members were taken in two launches up the lake to Pigeon Island. Piloted by members of the local lodge, they were shown the various points of interest. On returning to the jetty they were entertained at tea. Before embarking on the return trip, representatives of the various visiting lodges thanked the Upper Clutha brethren for the splendid outing provided. The visit, which was a memorable one, was thoroughly enjoyed by those taking part in it. The fortnightly meeting of tho Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge was held on Tuesday evening, and attracted a good muster of members. The N.G., Bro. Jack, was in the chair. Mourning was observed for the late Bro. V. Parker. A report was received from the council delegates to the Dispensary Board, the balance-sheet calling forth favourable comment. Tho P.G.M., Bro. J. Johnston, reported on the opening of the Loyal*'Queen of Maniototo Lodge at Ranfurly, which he attended. P.P.G.M. Bro. Crawford presented to the lodge a photograph of the lodge officers in I§9l, and gave some interesting reminiscences of the later ’eighties, which wore enjoyed. Bro. Crawford received a hearty vote of thanks_ for his photograph. During the evening one candidate was initiated.
