All roads led to Rattray street on Monday evening) tho occasion being the presentation of the general efficiency shield to Otago Lodge No. 1. A large and representative muster of Druids was in attendance, including Grand President Pro. A, Walker and his officers, several past grand presidents, and the district presidents of No. 1 and No. 3 districts. One candidate was initiated; After supper had been handed round G.P. Pro. Walker presented the efficiency shield, and _ congratulated A.I). Pro. A, 11. Rankin on tho allround excellence of tho lodge’s work. Ho also presented Pro. Rankin, on behalf of the lodge, with a framed photograph of tho sitting officers as a token of appreciation of the valuable work which ho had accomplished since occupying the A.D. chair. Several other congratulatory speeches were made by representative of visiting lodges, after which Pro.' Bankin, in accepting the shield and photograph, thanked the Grand President 'for his presentation and the members of Ins- lodge for their, gift, and expressed the opinion that patience, perseverance, and perfection were the principal keynotes of the lodge’s success. During tho evening Grand Secretary Pro. W. B. Steel gave an illuminating and instructive address on the progress tho order has made since its inception, and showed thab-thc assets of tho sick and funeral fund wore now in excess of all liabilities'. A short programme of musical and conjuring items was rendered by Bros. Wilhclmson, Bowie, and Meggett. The half-yearly meeting of Royal Oak Lodge was held in the lodge room, CavI'rslianij A.D. Bro. Wilson presiding. |),P. Bro. Johns was present officially, and was received with musical honours. A.D. Pro. Wilson and tho secretary, Bro. A. Hi Churchill, wore appointed to represent the lodge at tho social evening in honour of G.P. Bro. A. Walker. A report on tho meeting of the U.h.S. Dispensary Committee was ’ received, and one proposition was handed in tor membership. The scrutineers who acted during tho election were accorded a hearty vote of thanks At tho beginning of tho year Sister Wilson, whoso generosity to the lodges is well known, offered to present a prize to tho member bringing in the most members during the twelve months, the winner of the trophy, Pro. AV. P. Boston, who brought in nine new members, was presented with Ins prize by D.P. Bro. Johns, wiio stressed the need of younger mem hors following such a laudable example. The item on tlie / syllabus was an evening by Pro. R. S. C Ax, . who put on a very unique competition for the members present, coupled with a sumptuous supper. 'the competition was won by Bro. A. I he. secretary read a letter from the Juvenile'Council intimating that a new lodge was being opened at Port Chalmers and tliat’three ol the members had been picked for the initiation team which was to carry out I lie lodge work on that occasion. Among (tie visitors woic representatives from Myrtle and Southern Oak Lodges and P..D.P. Bro. Castles, of Timarn. The lodge was then adjourned for the purpose of entertaining the Forhnry School Band. Items were given by the hand and members of tho lodge, and altogcthci a very pleasalit evening was spent. A.D. Pro. Saunders, of Olivo Branch Juvenile Lodge, was greeted with a good attendance at tho meeting held hist Tlinrsday, Deputy-snperintendenfc Pro. M‘ Farlaiie being in charge owing to the absence of Superintendent Pro. Eanlds. After shooting practice the A.D. opened the lodge. The fund of tho shooting competition lor prizes donated by Tvnnhoo Lodge, was disposed of, two hoys having to shoot three times before finality could ho readied. The executive then picked tho team which will compete in tho Juvenile Council shooting competition, which commences in Progress Lodge on AVednesday next. Arrangements are being made to entertain the parents and members on the final meeting night of the year.
