THE LEADERSHIP.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In the leading article of Thursday night under the above heading you seem to ho highly elated about the result of this election. Jn referring to the Dunedin South election and the return of Mr Taverner, lie! heiiig Mayor of Dunedin also, you reckon the electors click the correct thing. I think it is a very unsatisfactory position, tor the tact remains that (5,634 electors said they did not want Mr Taverner and 4,462 said they did. 'The United Party did not gain ono seat in all Dunedin and Chalmers on a majority vofy. In that article there was a very insulting remark in comparing the Mayor of Dunedin and Mr Archer for tin way Mr Archer dealt with the recent flying “ stunt.” J think, on a vole of business people, Mr Archer’s action would have been endorsed; your view only shows the present trend of a section of tho people in dealing with the Sunday motor cars and picnic parties. Never mind, “as wo make our bed, so wo have to lie on it.” You also try to havo a poke at Mi Todd's supporters, but .1. don’t think any of them have lost any sleep over it. and as for Mr 'Todd himself, I am sure lie can spend his advancing years in a more pleasant way and in better company than if ho had been elected. As ho tolo the electors at one of his meetings, If you don t return me, well, then, I fo l’ another tour round the world. Cood luck to him, tool—l am, etc., Still Smiling . November 24.
