DEATH OF DR MARTIN
For nearly fifty years Dr Robert Martin practised his profession in New Zealand, all but three years of that time in Dunedin, and there must be thousands of his patients who think kindly and gratefully of his medical ministrations and will mourn his death, which occurred yesterday at his residence in Highgate. _ He was a Lanarkshire man, born in 1848, educated at Glasgow University and at the Andorsonian Institution, obtaining his diplomas of L.R.C.P. and L.F.P.b. in 1872. Ho practised in Glasgow till 1875, then came to Otago as medical officer of the ship Invercargill; was in 187 G appointed medical superintendent of the Reef ton Hospital; and returned to Dunedin in 1879, where he established a very large practice as a family physician, continuing in that good work until about four years ago, when he retired into private life. Mrs Martin survives her husband. A man of quiet demeanour, sparing of speech, sure in his work, invariably courteous and pleasant, and not given to selfpushing—such is the figure that projects itself when one thinks of Dr Martin, and it may truly be said of him that he was universally liked and respected.
