Music is tho language of the soul, higher, finer, and more delicate in its results than anything to which the tongue can give utterance, expressing what mere speech cannot express. Schubert was beyond doubt a true master of music. Ho drew unto himself from the infinite energy of which ho was a part, and ho worked towards the accomplishment of the highest ideals in giving life and worth to poetic beauty. Schubert is the great shining light of music undinunecl by age, dazzling the musical world by his brilliance. Tho great master’s centenary will be celebrated on Monday next at His Majesty’s Theatre, when tho combined forces of the Dunedin Royal Male Choir, the Dunedin Orchestral Society, and the Schubert Centenary Mixed Choir will render a Schubert programme. At Burns Hall, on November 26, Schubert’s songs and pianoforte works will constitute the programme to honour the renowned musician. The box plan arrangements are advertised
