MR LOUDON’S WITHDRAWAL.
10 TUB EDITOR. Sir,—Now the excitement of the elections is over and wo have settled down to our everyday affairs again, may 1 be pardoned for asking the local executive of the United Party organisation if the time is nob ripe to fully investigate Mr Loudon’s retirement from the Chalmers contest, particularly his unwarranted method of announcing ms retirement through the colums of the local Reform daily, instead of first placing his resignation in the hands of the local executive, if only out of courtesy s sake, and allowing it an opportunity ol approving of his action or otherwise r 1:1 is sudden withdrawal from the contest created a most unusual position, and it says much for the tact and good judgment of the local executive that it acted so promptly in filling the vacancy with the nomination of Mr Walls, this gentlemen deserves the thanks of mi local United supporters lor so gamely facing the difficult task of trying to do the impossible at £tich short notice. 1 am, etc., Chalmers Elector. November 20. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —If the executive of the United Party is going to allow Mr Loudon to quietly resign then I say it is lading in its duty to the party. Mr Loudon had a perfect right to withdraw from the contest if he felt so disposed, but the manner of his doing so was most open to criticism. I agree with Mr Cahill’s suggestion that Mr Loudon s withdrawal in itself was of no moment, but I would point out that people who lacked u knowledge of. Mr Loudon s political idiosyncrasy must necessarily have been influenced by the lact that an accredited candidate ot the Party had seen fit to renounce its own platform. As a supporter of the United Party I insist that the executive should hold a searching inquiry into the whole matter, and unless Mr Loudon can put forward an acceptable explanation he should bo expelled from the party.— 1 am, etc., Unity. November 21.
