Tho market for city _ property in Christchurch has shown signs of quickening during the past few weeks. Another sale to bo recorded (says a IVcss Association telegram) is that of a property in Armagh street, with a frontage of G7ft, at £2OO a foot. A spectacular fire was witnessed m Masterton last night, when a largo wooden building owned by Mr H. H. Daniell was burnt to tho ground. Ilio structure stood on a (section adjacent to the town, but there were no other buildings in the vicinity. Tho brigade was helpless, as the fire had a strong hold when tho alarm was given. The building was used for storage purposes, but tho exact nature of the contents is not known.

Sir Douglas Mawson, of Antarctic fame, arrived in Wellington yesterday morning from Sydney alter a trip Homo. Very valuable results should accrue because of the splendid equipment and good management that was evident. Tlie Wilkins expedition, on the other hand, was limited in its pcisonnol and equipment, and was no; likely to accumulate a great deal or information of scientific value, although it might be nblo to chart some ot tlie unknown coastlines.
