To-night, at His Majesty’s ’Theatre, for two nights only, the J. C. Williamson management will present Miss Bannernian and Anthony Prinsep’s company in Somerset Maugham’s famous comedy “ Our Betters.’ In 1 Our Betters ’ Somerset Maugham deals with the Americiin colony in aristocratic London. He traces its origin—snobbery. The Americans marry for title. Our peerage marry them for money. And he proceeds to show us a group ol those who have attained their heart’s desire. Here, it is said, Mr Maugham’s outlook is apparent, his hardness, his brilliance, his brutality. It is said that Miss Margaret Bannerman is magnificent as Pearl. “The part is rich in opportune ties,” wrote a Melbourne critic, “ but there had to bo the right actress to take these opportunities, and Somerset Maugham was fortunate in his selection of Miss Bannerman for the leading role. Miss Bannerman knows how to dress and wear clothes, and how to evoke sympathy where sympathy scorns almost impossible of achievement.” The cast of ‘ Our Betters ’ includes Ellis Irving, Louis Goodrich, G. Kay Sound - , Gcolfrev Millar, Frederick Hughes, Pine Bush, Miss Kerry Kelly, Miss Cicely Jonas Miss Dorothy Dunckley, and Arthur Cornell. The scenery, which was painted by the late Joseph Barker, is a feature of the production, and as also are the magnificent frocks. For the last two nights of the season ‘Diplomacy,’ Victorion Sardou’s play, will be presented. The box plan arrangements are advertised.
