INQUIRY OPENED Press Association—By Telegraph CopyrightSYDNEY, November 14. The coroner has opened an inquiry into the fire in the Cumberland paper mills on October 7, which caused £250,000 worth of damage. , Robert Bain, an engineer at the mills "ave evidence that the fire brigade was very slow in responding to the alarm, and failed to bring the fire engine right to the scene. Had tins been done, he was of the opinion that a considerable section of the machinery could have been saved. Cross-examined, Bain said ho was threatened with arrest by a constable when he gave information about the previous null fire in 1918. The inquiry was adjourned.
