SUMMER SHOW
ENTRIES QUITE SATISFACTORY The committee is satisfied wivli the support received in connection with the Otago A. and P. Society’s forthcoming stock show. There is a considerable increase in the number of entries m the slice,;? and cattle sections, though the committee is aware that several large exhibitors, for private reasons, are not exhibiting this year. In many of the classes the competition will ho exceptionally keen. Shorthorn cattle are prominently re presented by Bushey Park; Friesian cattle by Messrs Elworthy, Eados, Biyaut, Hewitt, Dickie and Sons, Biiggs, and F. J. M‘Donald and Co.; Ayrshires by Messrs Gillies Bros., A M Weir, A. M. Wright, P. Walker, J. J. Adams, and others. The committoe expected to have received more competition from the south, but lor some reasons many of the breeders do aided nt tho last moment not ro compel*. Jerseys will be shown by Messrs John Hellyer, R. Riddle, D. Rigid, J l .. M Cameron, and others; Corriedalo sheep by J. A. Johnstone, D. J. Ross, and New Zealand and Australian Land Co.; and there are tho best entries of fat lambs and sheep that have been seen at Taliuna Park for many years. The championships for the best bull and cow in tho Friesian and Ayrshire sections will be competed for at this show, and tor these two sections North Island judges are secured. In tho Clydesdale sections there are good entries in. most of tho classes. Four entries have been received tor the host group of lour animals, the progeny of one stallion, thus showing that breeders are taking a keen interest in this interesting competition. The program mo for the People’s Day is an extensive one—four judging rings will start at 9.30 a.m., and a programme has been arranged which will errry on until after 5 o’clock. [n tho town carriers’ section there might have been hotter competition in some of the classes, but the Express Company, which has consistently supported the society, will again make a good display. Tho anonymous donor of a trophy value twenty-one guineas for the best pair of geldings ilour-year-olds) will bo disappointed that there arc not more competitors in this class. Good horses aro_ still required, and he made the conditions so open that both town and country can compete, Thursday afternoon (People's Day) will be observed as a holiday from noon, and the committee confidently appeal to all classes of the community for their support and interest. The following are the particulars of entries received this year compared with .1927, with the exception of post entries which are received on the E “ |S: - 1927. 1925. Horses ...
