MR G. W. JOHNSTONE'S CONCERT

On Saturday night, in Burns Hall, Mr_ G. W. Johnstone will present a varied programme of song and choral work which is of unusual interest. In a year when the whole musical world is. honouring the memory of that great genius of song, Franz Schubert, it is fitting that many of his superb songs should find a place on any concert platform, and such masterpieces as ‘The; Erl King,’ * Gretchcn at the Spinning Wheel. ’ ‘ The Xoimg Nun,’ ‘My Peace Thou Art. ‘Wandering,’ ‘The Marching Song,’ and ‘ The Wild Rose ’ wall be heard on Saturday evening. Many of the soloists are well known as gifted singers, while a number of younger vocalists of promise will make their debut at this concert. The choir will he heard in six numbers, including the quaint negro spiritual ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,’ and the plaintive old plantation am ‘ Carry Me Back tc Old Virginny.’ Booking arrangements arc announced.
