A SURPRISE
THIRD CANDIDATE FOR WELLINGTON CENTRAL MR W. T. YOUNG'S WIFE OPPOSITE OFFICIAL LABOUR. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON. October 29. Mr P. Fraser, the sitting Labour member and candidate for Wellington Central, commenced his campaign in earnest to-night. A last-minute surprise was sprung when the nominations closed at noon to-day in the disclosure that a third candidate had been nominated for the seat. Up till this morning there had been no indication that a third candidate was to disturb the straight-out contest between Air Fraser and Air Dunbar Sloane (Reform). The third nominee is Airs Afargaret Young, She declares herself an Independent Labour candidate.
Mrs Young is the wife of Mr \Y. T. Young, 'formerly general secretary of the New Zealand Seamen’s Union, and at Mr Fraser’s meeting to-night he said ho did not know of his wife’s nomination until he saw it in to-night’s paper. He declared his own loyalty to the official Labour candidate, and urged the electors to vote for Mr Fraser. Mr Fraser in 3iis speed) said he was “considerably interested” when he heard of Airs Young’s nomination. Everyone had a right to be nominated, and all the more the merrier.
