“ALHAMBRA PAY”

TREAT FOR CHILDREN Eavoured with glorious sunny weather, without a breath of wind, “ Alhambra Day” provided a rare treat for the hundreds of happy children at Opolio last Saturday, winch incidentally marked the dose of tlio Alhambra Club’s football season. This day is an annual one, and is held specially for the benolit of children who are catered for with toys, fruit, and races, for which good prizes arc given. Tho sports programme is tho feature of tho day’s outing, and events arc included for both young and old. On Saturday a lengthy programme was rim olf without a hitch, "lor which credit is due to tlie ollidals in charge and other assistants. Adults were also provided with mi enjoyable cup of a/ternoou lea. This was prepared and served by a large bond of lady workers, who are staunch supporters ol the club and ready to assist at all times. A lootball match was played between idle bantam teams trom George Street and North-east Valley Schools, tho former winning by G points to 3. Mr B. Herd refereed. An undoubted attraction was tho Albany Street School Brass Band, under the callable direction ot Mr A. Hanna. This band shows a marked improvement on every public appearance, and its well-varied programme of selections was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by everyone. In tho sports events big fields wero tho order, especially in the children's races, in which as many as fifty laced tho starter. Results; —

In-the evening a social , was held in the gaily-decorated hall, which was practically crowded. A very enjoyable, evening was. spent, and good dance ’music was provided by tho Alhambra Dance Orchestra.
