Cairney, Carr, liarr, Arundel, Cleghorn, John W r atson, Sister Nora, Miss Reid, and the secretary. , „ 1 It was intimated that Miss Evciy I matron of Batchelor Hospital, would give an address at the W T omon s Club on Tuesday, October 2, at 3 p.m., at which members of the executive were I invited. Her subject would bo MaUernal Mortality.’ j “DAFFODIL DAY.” j Mrs M'George reported that a meet- ' ing of the Special Efforts Sub-commit-j tee had been held on Friday, SeptemI ber 21, to arrange details in regard to ' the holding of the society’s annual i“Daffodil Day” street sale on Friday, 1 October 5. All arrangements were re- ■ ported to be well in hand, and a number of generous donations had been promisee! to the various stalls. It was decided that there bo stalls at Jacobs’s Corner, Stock Exchange, Sprosen’s Corner, Strand Corner, and Dowling street, the following members of committee kindly undertaking to take charge of the stalls;— Jacobs’s Corner.—Mesdames Jos. M'George, Williams, J. M. Gallaway, and Wilson. | Stock Exchange. Mesdames Garth j Gallaway, Marshall Macdonald, and ■ Arundel. ! Sprosen’s Corner. —Port Chalmers and Sawyers Bay (Mesdames Cunninghnme, John Watson, and Leslie Cleghorn). 1 Strand.—Mesdames Carr, Cairney, and Miss Reid.

It was arranged that a meeting of the heads of stalls be held at tho Plun- , ket office on Wednesday afternoon next to make final arrangements, j Mrs M'George reported briefly in regard to the general conference held in Wellington at the end of August. A I fuller report of tho proceedings was ! held over until next meeting in order , that more time might be able to be ' devoted to it. I REPORTS. 1 Tho Matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported for the month ended : July 31: —Number of patients admitted during month—l 6 mothers, 24 babies: patients discharged—l 6 mothers, 18 babies; patients in residence on July 31 —4 mothers, 27 babies; largest number in residence on any one day—6 mothers, 27 babies, deaths—l baby. All patients are making satisfactory progress. The baby who died was a small premature baby. The sources of admission j were:—Balclntha, Brighton, Clydevale, I Lawrence, Waiwera South, and Duni edin and suburbs. There are 20 Plunj ket nurses and 12 Karitane nurses in | training. The usual end-of-term lec--1 tures and demonstrations were given ,by Miss Pattrick. There were 233 visi- \ tors during the month. Tho Plunket nurse for Anderson’s Bay district and out-stations (south line) reported for July:—Number of babies on the list, 223; babies breastfed (including partly), 112; new cases for tho month (babies only) 17; babies breast-fed (including partly, now cases), 14; visits paid to Plunket rroms, Anderson’s Bay—l 64 mothers, 143 babies, 5 older children; Outram 12 mothers, 11 babiea, 3 older children; Mosgiel—s7 mothers, 48 babies, 21 older children. Visits paid to homes; Anderson’s Bay 99, Abbotsford. Green Island, and Burr-side 41, Outram 2, and Mcsgiel 21. The following visits were paid to out-stations; —Mosgiel 5, Outram 2, Abbotsford 5, Green Island 4. Burnside 4. The matron of the Karitane-Harris Hospital reported for the month of August Number of patients admitted dining month, 23 mothers, 27 babies; patients discharged, 22 mothers, 24 babies largest number in residence on any one day, 3 mothers, 21 babies The sources of admission were. Camara, Ashburton, Gatlins. Outram, and the remainder from Dunedin and suburbs. AJ cases made satisfactory progress. The term examinations for Plunket and Karitane nurses were held early in Ax gust. The following nurses completed a course of training for Plunket nursing Nurses Coutt, M‘Donald, Lockwood, Grant, Gedncy, Bentham, Tapp. Till, Hargrove, Cunningham, Wood. Arnott, Runciman, White, Davey, Sutherland, Francis, I’urner, and Dr R. Gillies. The following nurses commenced them course H Plunket training:—Nurses Chapman, Feldwick, Wereta, Cussen, Bowron, Horner, Metherill, Hooper, Macdonald, Welsh, Marshall, Rowe, Greig, Cropp, Clarkson, M'Donald, Payntor, Borrows. Karitane Nurses Mander and Knight commenced training. Karitane Nurse Irwin completed her training. There were 328 visitors to tho hospital during tho month. Gifts from Mesdames Jopp and Galloway, Miss Fitzgibbon, and from Taieri sub-branch were acknowledged with thanks.
