DRUIDISM

Otago Lodge held a very successful and interesting meeting on Monday night. A number of visitors were present, principal of whom were the district presidents of Nos. 1 and 2 Districts officially. A considerable amount of routine business was transacted by A.l). Bro. Rankin and his officers, and after the supper adjournment a debate as to whether, or not the repent visit of the All Blacks to South Africa had been a success from a national and sporting point of view was brought on for discussion. Tho subject of debate was within the reach of every member, and aroused keen interest. Secretary Dro. J. W. Dove led in the affirmative, whilst P.A. Bro. F. Barton championed the opposition side. Every brother present expressed his views cither for or against, and some excellent speeches wmemado during the progress of the debate, ft is intended to hold further debates on popular subjects during the coming year, when no doubt further latent talent will be unearthed.

The fortuighty meeting of Mistletoe Lodge was held in the Foresters’ Mall, Green island, on Tuesday, when A.D. Bro. Mildenhall was greeted with a largo attendance of members and visiting brethren. After routine business had been disposed of, members adjourned to the main ball to entertain their lady friends to a social evening, it was the fifth anniversary of the lodge, and A.D. Bro. Mildenhall welcomed tho visitors. A varied programme was arranged, and the items were well received. During the evening a mock initiation was arranged in order that the ladies might sco for themselves what u member had to go through when joining. Dancing was indulged in and supper handed round, after' which the visitors returned thanks for the entertainment provided and congratulated Mistletoe Lodge on the steady progress it was making. The meeting of Royal Oak Lodge was held in the lodge room, Caversham, A.D. Bro. Wilson presiding. D.P. Bro, Johns was present officially, and received a hearty welcome. The following visitors were also present:—A.D. Bro A. N. Rankin, O.G. Bro. Tasker, and A.D.B. Bro. M‘Crone (Otago), P.D.P. Bro. M‘Fariane (Linden), P.D. Bro. Huston (Bay), ami P.A. Bro. Welsh (Enterprise). Bro. C. Tidoy was elected O.G. for the current term, and duly installed by D.P. Bro. Johns. The invitation from All Nations Lodge to the church parade was accepted, the lodge to attend officially. One candidate was initiated,' and one admitted by clearance. One proposition was also handed in for membership, after which tho lodge adjourned to carry out the syllabus. The wives and lady friends of tho members were then admitted and entertained the members to a pleasant evening. Airs A. E. Churchill presided, and dancing, competitions, and games were indulged in. Musical items were rendered at intervals by Bros. M'Farlane, Sincock, Rankin, and Huston, Bro. Rankin presiding at the piano. Supper was provided, after which A.D. Dro. Wilson thanked the ladies for their entertainment

Bay Lodge, No. 18, held its fort- | nightly meeting in the Coronation Hall, , SB Kilda, on Tuesday night, A.D. Bro. j E. W. Bartlett presiding. D.P. Bro. Oukwell, and Bru. M’Donald (Enterprise), A.D. Bro. Wilson, 1 .A. Bro. Logic, • and P.A. Bro. Clark (Royal Oak)- The correspondence included an : invitation to attend a church parade at ; Port Chalmers, also a church parade at Green Island. Something in the way of a record for the lodge was cicatcd by the introduction into the order or , eight new candidates, six being piuposod by one member and two by an other. The ceremony was ably carried out by acting A.D. Bro. Wilson. During the evening a V.A. competition was held eleven comoetitiors facing the . judge. P.A. Bro. bumble, of Christ- | church. At the close of the meeting Mistletoe and Mornington plowed off for the t,.ichre shield, and after a well-contested game Mistletoe Lodge proved the wanner by two g-mes. A.D. Bro. I The meeting of Enterprise Lodge was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Kensington, last Wednesday, A.D. Bro. H. J. Peacock presiding over a good > attendance of members. One candidate | was proposed for membership. The business of the evening was quickly disposed of, the brothers being anxious to make n prompt start with the item on the syllabus—viz., “Wives and Sweethearts' Night.” Songs were rendered by Miss Lenthley, Bro. J. A. Paterson, Mr J. 3wau, and Mr Harris, recitations by Bro. T. Clark and Bro. E. H. Bezett, and a saxophone solo by Bro. H. J. M‘Batchy. Bro. D. Newlancls supplied the music for several dances and after supper had been handed round the evening concluded with the National Anthem.

Lily of the Valley Lodge held its fortnightly meeting on Wednesday, A.D. Bro. Doig having the pleasure of presiding over a good attendance of members. The efficiency judges, G.S. Bro. Steel and P D.P. Bro. M'Beath, were in ntetndanco for the purpose of judging the lodge in the conducting of business and ritual work. An invitation from All Nations’ Lodge to attend a church parade nt Port Chalmers on Sunday. October 7, was accepted, a number signifying their intention of being present. The invitation to Otago Lodge on Monday first was i’so accepted. the officers and members to attend officiallv. The toasts were honoured. G.S. Bro. Steel rescinding on behalf of the judges and D.P. Bro. P. Rusbbridge responded to the third toast. Supper was provided. The half-yearly meeting of Mvrtle Lodge (juvenile') was held on Tuesday "night, A.D. Bro. Cameron presiding over a good attendance of members. A letter was received from Progress Lodge inviting the officers to be present on October 3, when the general efficiency shield would be presented to the lodge. The invr tion was ac cepted, nearly all the oncers signifying their intention of being present. The election of officers was taken, and resulted in very keen competition for each office. The superintendent reported on arrangements made for the combined sports meeting on Labour Day. The lodge decided to enter two Soccer teams. Two candidates were proposed for membership. Progress Juvenile Lodge held its fortnightly meeting in the Methodist Hall, Wesley street, South Dunedin, on Wednesday, A.D. Bro. Maybee presiding. Southern Oak Lodge attended officially. The A.D. called for nominations for the various offices, and the following brethren were declared elected:—A.D., Bro. W Childs; V.A.. Bro. Graham; conductor, Bro. Thorburn; I.G , Bro, Lovelock; 0.G., Bro Hudson; A.D. bards, Bros. Hollands and Heeps; V.A. bards, Bros. Norman and Deans; minute secretary, Bro. A. Norman. It was decided to invite the sitting officers of sister juvenile lodges to bo present at the (jresentation of the general efficiency shield next lodge night.
