PREPARATIONS OR THE BEACHES

HOPE DRESSING ACCOMMODATION Lu tho beautiful weather of last summer, which was doubly enjoyed through tho innovation of daylight saving, tho youth -of Dunedin appreciated, more than ever before, tho health-giving advantages of the fine beaches at St. Clair and St. Kilda. To the regret of towndwellers, tho Summer Time Act. was repealed; but. despite this, great preparations arc being made to give more pleasure ami benefit Ilian before to.thnso wlio seek them on the sand and in tho water. When summer comes round again St. Clair will be ready-''for the hundreds who. it is hoped, will visit tho beach. The promises ol those who organised the highly successful carnival at St. Chili early ibis year wore not empty ones, some ol their ideas having already taken delinito shape. Extra dressing accommodation has already been built at, the St. Clair baths, and tho foundations arc now being put in of tho splendid and largo concrete dressing pavilion which is going up on the sito of the old Surf Club pavilion. Accommodation will ho provided lor about *IOO bathers. ■ It is anticipated that tho new pavilion will lie ready towards tho end of the year, so that its many comforts will lie available for bathers throughout tho whole of next summer. Resides providing for the requirements of bathers, the City Council and 11 its St. Clair Improvement, Society are also mailing many improvements to the appearance of the seafront. By the purchase' of laud at the southern end, tho council has made the esplanade the .same width all the way along, ami at present, the coneroto steps in front ot tho pavilion arc being extended along tho front of the vacant section on the south. The approach to tho Second Beach is also being improved, and a, start lias been made on a wall whicli_ is to ho built along the bank at the side of iho road. Trees arc also to be planted on the gra-s bank running towards tho approach to tho Second Beach. “.May I he s«m shine at St. Clair this summer,” must be tho fervent wish of hundreds who revelled in its joys last season.
