FRIDAY, AUGUST LI. (Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) UNLIGHTED VEHICLES. William Thomas Charles Reynolds was fined 2t)s and 10s costs for driving a cycle at night without a light. John Ray in ond SonncsS was similarly dealt with for driving a mi or car at night without lights. For a similar offence John fcwan was mulcted in the same amount. For driving a cvclo at night without lights, Burton Eric Trainer was lined 10s and court costs I Os. For riding a bicycle without a light at South Dunedin Reginald Gillon was fined ss, with costs 10s. Eor a similar olfeneo at South Dunedin Charles Patterson was fined ss, with costs 10s, WRONG NUMBER PLATES. David Smyth Contis. was charged on two. counts with affixing to a motor car a number not being the appropriate assigned one, which was likely to he mistaken for an assigned number, lie was also charged with being in charge of a stationary motor ear at night without having it lighted. Also with using a. motor car without having tin assigned number and distinguishing marks attached thereto. On tho first charge ho was fined 10s and court costs 10s, and on each of tho other charges ho was fined court costs, which amounted to 10s. NEGLIGENT DRIVING. ■ Hector Ronnie pleaded not guihy tc a charge of negligently driving a motor lorry in Princes street. Mr AY. L. Monro appeared for tin defendant. Tho police evidence was that defendant, driving a motor lorry, passed a ear in front, tho driver of widely had indicated with Ids arm (hat lie wished to turn t-o the right. To avoid a collision the driver of tho motor ear had tc go straight on instead of turning. Mr Moore said defendant was not approached till a week after tiny necurrenco to make a statement. There was nothing by which he could call tho occasion to mind, though ho could not make a contradiction. Defendant denied that he turned round and “ grinned 1 ’ at fho driver ot the motor car alter preventing him from turning. His Worship, who said he saw ne reason to doubt the constable's evidence, imposed a fine of 20s, with costs 10s.
