YESTERDAY’S PARLIAMENT
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (Abridged from Press Association.) The Law Practitioners’ Amendment Bill (the Hon. J. MacGregor) was introduced and read a first time. The Council adjourned at 2.35 p.m. until Wednesday next. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Mr D. G. Sullivan (Avon) gave notice of his intention to introduce the Workers’ Annual Leave Bill. Replying to Mr A. M. Samuel (Uiimemuri), the Minister of Agriculture (tho Hon. 0. J. Hawkou) said tliero was no truth in the published statement emanating from Palmerston North that there were animals on Somes, Island affected with foot-and-mouth disease. There were some cattle on tho island, but they came trom tho United States of America, and wore perfectly healthy. The Government was taking tho most rigid precautions against tho introduction of foot-and-mouth disease, and to that end the regulations had recently been tightened up. Replying to Mr W. Jones (Maxsden), the Hon. 0. J. Hawken said ho had not yet received particulars of the hew disease amongst cattle reported from tho north, lie was, however, making further inquiries as to the exact nature of the disease. The Budget debate concluded, and the House went into Committee of Supply on tho Estimates, rising at 2.40 a.m.
