LEON GORDON SEASON

‘SCANDAL’ TO-NIGHT This evening and to-morrow night, His Majesty’s Theatre, tlio J. C. Williamson, Ltd., .management will present Mr Leon Gordon and a brilliant supporting company, including Miss May Collins, in the fascinating and daring comedy, * Scandal,’ in which Mr Gordon created a furore in Sydney. When it was originally staged in Now Zealand, ‘ Scandal ’ created something like a sensation, and it enjoyed a record tour. In Sydney and Wellington ‘ Scandal ’ attracted larger audiences than ‘The Trial of Mary Dngan/its success being attributed to the brilliant acting of Mr Leon Gordon and Miss May Col lins. Mr Gordon, by reason of his temperament and deportment, plays finbiy as the cold, matter-of-fact Franklin Tie is at his best in the third act. Hero, it is said, ho convoys delightfully tlio thorough discontent of a man who loves a woman who is twisting him round her finger and making him feel .absurdly small. Ho is also said to bo brilliant in the famous bedroom scene, in which he seeks his revenge for being made to look foolish. Miss May Collins, as Beatrix Vandcrdyke, tho spoilt daughter of n. millionaire, made a sensational triumph in Sydney. She presents a girl anxious to explore the layers of real life beneath the cotton wool in which she has been wrapped, and she sets out to play ivith dynamite. Tho dynamite in this case is a successful artist, Sutherland Yorke, and an almost perfect specimen of a bounder. Miss Collins greatly assisted Air Gordon in making ‘ Scandal ’ an infinitely more attractive production than any previous representation that had been given ot Cosmo Hamilton's daring play. Others in the cast are Lcylaud Hodgson, John Fcrnside, Frank Bradley, Henrietta Cavendish, Nancy Atkins, Daphne Bairn, Noe! Boyd, and Charles Wheeler. Features of tho production are tho scenic effects and the drosses worn by the principal ladies. Tho company will leave for tho north on Saturday.'
