Kidson) supplied tho following at noon to-day :—Tho indications are lor westerly winds, moderate to strong, and veering by west to northerly, strong to a gale at times; there is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather soon, hut tho weather appears to bo cloudy and unsettled, with rain following, tho weather will probably become warmer; barometer falling; tides good, sea rough. ARRIVED.—August 22. Waikouaiti, s.s.. (8.30 a.m.), 3,926 tons, Reed, from Timaru. Ynrravillo, s.s. (9 a.m.), 8,627 tons, A. Cook, from San Pedro via northern ports. SAlLED.—August 21.

Winghtui, s.s. (5.15 p.m.), 2,378 tons, Hewitt, for Auckland via jvorts. Coriiina, s.s. (10.20 p.m.), 1,319 tons, Lowe, for Now Plymouth via ports.

Tho Corinna sailed last night after loading for Nelson and N.ew Plymouth via ports. The Waikouaiti arrived this morning from Timaru to take in cargo for Sydney She is to sail to-morrow for Blurt to complete loading. The Wingatui left yesterday afternoon for Auckland via ports. The Kurow is to leave Auckland on Saturday for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Tho Kahika is expected to clear Gisborne to-morrow for Dunedin direct. Sho is duo on Monday, and is to load out the same day for Napier and Gisborne via ports. The Kaponga is to sail at_s o’clock thii evening for Timaru, Wellington, and Westport. Tho Katoa was expected to leave Auckland to-day for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. Tiie Breeze is timed to sail to-night for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. THE FERRY SERVICE.

The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.55 a.m. to-day, and southern passengers and , mails connected with tho express. THE PORT DUNEDIN.

Advice received states that the Commonwealth aiid Dominion Lino’s motor ship Port Dunedin is en route from London to New Zealand, and will discharge at Lytteltom Dunedin, and Napier. The vessel will commence loading at Napier for her Homeward voyand will then go to Auckland to continue loading, She is scheduled to reach Auckland on October 3, and will afterwards complete loading at Southern ports. PORT SYDNEY AT LONDON. Cabled news has been received by the G and D. Lino that the Port Sydney arrived at London last Thursday from Wellington. Tho vessel left Wellington on July 5. CAPE EG MONT LIGHT. Tho new light to be installed in the Cape Egmpnt lighthouse will cost £1,661. and the installation should be completed next February. It will be a triple Hash, automatic, revolving lio-Jit, and will be the first ol its kind in’ New Zealand in that the Hash will bo caused bv the revolution of a series of lenses. The light will have greater power of penetration than the ordinary automatic Hashing light. It is believed that a light of this class will overcome the difficulty said to have been experienced from the confusion of tho existing lights with the other lights in the vicinity.

OTRANTO DRV DOCKED. | The Union Company baa received cabled news that the Orient liner Otranto, which was recently damaged in-a collision while returning from a cruise to Norway, has been safely dry docked at Southampton. Messrs Harland and Wolff are executing the necessary repairs, and it is expected, that the vessel will sail from London on her time-table date, September 15, for Australia. RECORD SHIPMENT OF SUGAR. The Union Company’s motor cargo ship Hauraki, which left Suva on August 3 for Vancouver,' loaded 8,295 tons of sugar, a record shipment, from Fiji KARETU FROM AUSTRALIA. Tho Union Company advise that the steamer Karetu is to leave Melbourne to-morrow with general cargo for Blurt, Dunedin, Oamaru Timaru, Lyttelton, and Wellington. She is duo at this port about nest Wednesday. TANKER IN PORT. Making her first trip to New Zealand waters, the Vacuum Oil Company s tanker Yarraville arrived this morning from San Pedro via northern ports. She was berthed at the Victoria wharf to discharge her cargo of bulk oil' into tho company’s tanks. Tho latest of the Vacuum On Cornpan v’s fleet, the Yarraville, was launched in March last, and has made one trip to Sydney and Brisbane. She is slightly larger than the company’s other vessel Voco, which, was in New Zealand recently. Good weather was experienced by the Yarraville for tho greater part of the voyage, but two days before reaching Auckland she encountered southerly cyclones, which delayed her arrival slightly. On the trijv across the Pacific the tanker averaged just on 11 knots. Captain A. Cook is in command of the Yarraville, and associated with him are tho following officers: —Chief, Mr T. Scott; second, Mr W. Tait; third, Mr Cf. M‘William; chief engineer, Mr W. Stableford; second, Mr L. Jones; third, Mr T. Murray; fourth, Mr \V. Whitelaw; wireless operator, Mr i. Dunn. . , When the Yarraville has discharged her oil here she will go to San Francisco direct. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
