SHIPWRECK RELIEF

EXECUTIVE MEETING OF SOCIETY Mr C. W. S. Chamberlain presided at an executive meeting of the ShipwrecK Relief Society held yesterday afternoon Messrs G. L. Denuision, S. K. Sleigh, J. MTntosh, and- Captain Fraser were also present. On the motion of Mr G. L. Oenniston, Mr Chamberlain was unanimously elected chairman for the coming year. Mr Denniston was elected treasurer, and Mr E. S. Wilson secretary

The statement of accounts for the past , quarter showed that receipts amounted to £475 Is 2d, while. £.lho had been spent on relief. This sum was made up of the following: Belief to crew of Awatua, £SO; crew of the Glena-e, £2O; crew' of the scow Herald, £l2; C Roberts of the fishing boat Valmai, £10; and to tho crew of the trawler Thomas Bryan, £IOO. Several letters were received from Captain Atwood, the society’s superintendent ' at Auckland, requesting various sums for the several different disasters, and in all cases the money had been granted. In regard to tho wrecked crew ot the Isabella do Frame, a letter was received from Captain Atwood stating that several of the crew were provided for under the Workers’ Compensation Act, and that in other cases no relici w; -..s necessary.

Accounts amounting to £33 12s 2d were passed for payments, and a cheque for the sum of £lll 0s 9d collected on various vessels of the Union Company was thankfully received. The Chairman reported that they had a bank balance of £62 11s 2d, with an additional sum in the Savings Bank. Tho following snb-comrnitteo was appointed for the ensuing term;—Chairman, treasurer, Sir George Fenwick, and Mr E. C. Hazlett. It was decided to record on the bookv a i appreciation of the work done byMr M'lntosh, a member of the executive, who was about to take up new duties as collector of customs in Auckland.
