JUBILEE SERVICE A special service held in First Church last evening inaugurated ■ the jubilee celebrations of the Young M omen’s Christian Association, which AA-ill be continued throughout the week. The service aviis opened, with an appropriate voluntary played by Dr V. E. Galway on The organ, and several Avell-known hymns, including ‘ On, God, Our Help in Ages Past,’ ‘All People That on Earth Do Da-ell,’ and ‘ Forward Bo Our Watchword,’ were sung by the congregation. The choir rendered a special anthem. „ . Dr E- N. Herrington Avelcoraed the board of directors and members of the association, and said that it was yery fitting that they should hold their first anniversary service in First Church, as his predecessor Avas on the association’s advisory hoard, Avliilo his Avifo was also a member of tho hoard of directors. The discourse dealt with the increasing influence of women in matters of importance throughout the world, their presence at such universities as Oxford and Cambridge, and the work generally that they were accomplishing. The preacher also pointed out the influence that Mary and Martha had had on Christ’s life. Tho entire service was characterised by a note of thanksgiving. The members of the board and staff were afterwards the guests of Dr Herrington at supper. MEETING OF THE BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors .of the association, over which Mr J. S. Ross dealt principally with matters relating to the jubilee celebrations. The executor in the estate of Miss Irene -Maconnochic, of St. Bathans, forwarded a cheque for £92 7s 4d, being the amount of a legacy from her estate. The national office (Wellington) reported that Miss Cole, of-New Plymouth, who was going to Honolulu, ivould represent the Y.W.C.A. of. New Zealand at the Pan-Pacific Conference. A committee to deal with nominations for office for the ensuing year was set np. All departments reported : concentra*tion on preparations for the pageant. All those taking part are rehearsing

most enthusiastically under the direction of Mr F. H. Lampen. The pageant, which will represent the various stages in the history of the association, will bo staged at His Majesty’s Theatre on Wednesday night, and again on Friday.
