WILLIAM HEUGHAN

DRAMATIC SONG INTERPRETER. William Heughan, tlio well-known song interpreter, has returned to New Zealand from recitals in practically all tho greatest cities in the world, which he has visited in tho course of his extensive world tours. He is now engaged on another world tour, and in his recitals to bo given in tho Burns Hall_on Thursday and Friday, 26th and 27th inst., and later in His Majesty’s Theatre j commencing Wednesday, August 8, will again demonstrate to tho public of this city what the critics of five continents have termed “a remarkable art.” His is more than a mere song recital. It is the art of one of that rare guild, the song interpreter. Words and music are not the all in all and end all of his programme. Ho is actor, 'singer, and story-teller all in one. Heughan has brought to the concert platform much of the lito and appeal of the contemporary stage. Ho sings the songs of many lands, but, unlike the ordinary concert performer, ho calls to his aidj to make his song pictures more animate and complete, the powers of characterisation and dramatisation. Ho is not afraid to be thrilling, nor is he afraid to make full use of of humour. He will give entirely different progammes, each of which will include operatic arias, classics, and ballads of England, Scotland, Ireland, Russia, etc. With him as assisting artists are Maud Bell, tho English ’cellist, well known in London and the principal cities in Europe, whore she appeared with marked success; and Gladys Sayer, the well-known pianistc, who has shared in honours gained by Heughan throughout the world Box plans for the two nights in Burns Hall open at Chas. Begg and Co.’s on Monday, 23rd inst.
