PIGEON FLYING

DUNEDIN CLUB. The Dunedin Homing Pigeon Club held its annual meeting recently, when the following report was submitted to the members:—The club has again experienced another successful year. Record entries were rccived for the races, whilst the results have been very close, in ono race two dead-heats being recorded. Mr L. Tonks is tho winner of the season’s aggregate, the winner of Mr G. Butcher’s special prize for most points for races over 500 miles for tho past two years, also Mr S. Hutchison’s prize for most points in the North Island, and Mr R. V. Kelly’s medal for most points in pen races. His birds were successful in tho winning of tho Frankton Junction race of CUO miles and the Auckland race of 700 miles in record time, Mr J. Hardgraves was tho winner of tho young birds’ aggregate. My J. Still won the champion race, and Ivan Frost tho young bird Derby. The balance-sheet shows a small debit balance, but this is duo to the purchase of new hampers. These hampers will pay for themselves, as they are considerably lighter than the old ones, and as a result freight will not bo so heavy as it lias been in tho past. New rules have been drawn up which should assist in making the club more efficient. Thanks are due to one of our members who donated the cost of a now floor, and also the many others wdio have rendered assistance. To our patrons, liberators, railway and shipping servants we tender our thanks. Prospects for the coming season are excellent, and with tho co-operution of all tho members generally an excellent year’s sport should bo guaranteed.

Tho’ following ofiicc-bearerg were elected:—President, Mr F. Jones; senior vice-president, Mr H. Millard; secretary, Mr W. Hargreaves; assistant, secretary, Mr C. W. Conley*; treasurer, Mr J. Sconllar: Clock Committee— Messrs A. Turnbull, A. Stevenson, R. V. Kelly, and G. T. Coutts; Race Committee—Messrs J. Sconllar, G. T. Coutts, R. Parker, and L. Tonks; auditors, Messrs F. Jones and R. W. Simpson.
