‘GETTING GERTIE'S GARTER’
AX UPROARIOUS FARCE. At last wo have ‘ Gertie ’ charmingly interpreted by piquant Mario Provost, and the intriguing tales ot her decorative feminine appendage brought to the screen in the First National photo-play version of the famous stage play, ‘Getting Gertic’s.Gnrtcr,’ punctuated naturally by do luxe laughs and riotous humour ‘ad lib. The lively and daring plot revolves around the main tlunne, which, of course, is concerned with the notorious garter, which is Iho innocent and unprotosting cause of a tangled web of intrigue, wherein is sprinkled liberally elegant blondes, vivid hrnnettos, disporting themselves through an amazing variety id amusing situations. Charles Ray is the lover who, alter presenting “ Gertie ” with ins portrait ingeniously altixed to tho garter, suddenly decides that there is something in this “Gentlemen Prefer” complex, and promptly lulls in love with a beautiful blonde. Quito naturally ho desires to regain possession of tho garter, and most, of Iho fun is centred round his frantic efforts to regain it. Mario Prevost is particularly good as “Gertie,” and a strong supporting cast, who aro all responsible for fine characterisations in this entertaining farce, includes Sally Rand, Uritzi Ridgway, and Franklin Paiigborn. 'This film opens at the Empire Theatre on Friday. Coney Island, the playground of New Fork’s 0.D00,000 people, plays an important part in ‘ The Rig Noise,’ tho second picture. All tho glamour and colour of tho famous carnival of fun i.s brought to the screen, and presents a vivid contrast to the scenes showing New York’s lower East Side, where much of the action in (ho picture takes place. ‘Tho Rig Noise’ was written For First National Pictures by Ren Hceht, and centres around the power of the sensational American newspaper m making and breaking reputations overnight. Chester Conklin plays tho featured role in the production. Tho supporting cast includes Alice ‘While, Sam Ilavdy, David Torrance, Rodil Rosing, Jack Egan, and many others.
