SCOTLAND YARD
INTERROGATION METHODS • ATTACKED BY JUDGE (British Official Wireless.) Press Association-By Telegraph-Copyright. RUGBY, Juno 10. Mr Justice Atherley-Jones, who has been judge of the Mayor’s City of Loudon Court since 191 J, when speaking in London, attacked the police and condemned their practice of extracting evidence from arrestcyl persons by interrogation. If accused persons volunteered statements they should be left to write them out themselves. Prosecutions for indecency should not be brought unless corroboration by tho police was available, and the practice of sending police in evening dress to buy champagne at night clubs savoured of the Continental agent provocateur method. Tho proper procedure in tho case of Miss Saviclge would have been to write and make an appointment and obtain her statement, not to drive up to her employers and carry her off to Scotland Yard.
