TO-DAY'S CASH PWCEB
The guide gives the prices ruling in the city shops to-day.
There has been an increase in the price of eggs. First grade are selling at 3s 3d dozen, second grade at 3s. Butter is selling at Is 9d and Is 7d.
Owing to the bad weather fish are scarce. Ling and cod are fairly plentiful. Prices Groper, 10d lb; red cod, fid lb; ling, 4d lb; trevalli, fid lb; blue cod, 1$ 3d lb; flounders, from 4d each.
Meat prices are unchanged:— Beef (roast), 5d to 8d; corned beef, from fid to 8d; mutton, from 3Jd to 8d; lamb, from 5s quarter; pork, from B£d to Is.
Vegetable prices are:—Local hothouse tomatoes, Is lb; hothouse, 6d to 8d lb; Taieri potatoes, 101 b for Is; cabbages, 2d to 4d; cauliflowers, 4d to 8d; lettuce, 3d to 6d; cucumbers (hothouse), 8d to Is; outside cucumbers, 3d to 4d each; marrows, 2d lb; pumpkins, 2d lb; potatoes, 7s 6d cwt; spinach, 2d bunch; celery, 4d to 6d bunch; artichokes, 4d lb; onions, 81b for Is; pickling onions, 81b for Is.
Fruit is selling at:—Bananas, 8 and 10 for Is; Cox’s Orange apples, 4d to 6d lb; Winter Cole pears, fid lb; other varieties, 3d and 4d lb; Californian lemons, 3d each; Sunkist oranges, 3 for Is 3d; hothouse grapes, 2s; dessert plums, 4d lb; cooking plums, 4d lb; grape fruit, fid each; dessert peaches, fid and 8d lb; cooking pears, 3d lb; quinces, 4d lb.
