LATE SHIPPING
ARRIVED.—May 1. Waikouaiti (9.30 p.m,), 3.926 tons, Prosser, from Newcastle and Sydney. WAIKOUAITI’S DELAYED ARRIVAL. The Waikouaiti, which should have arrived from Sydney on Sunday, did not reach here until last night. In crossing the Tasman Sea she encountered the full force of tho recent gales, and as the sea was very rough the vessel bad to bo slowed down to assure her safety. Consequently her arrival was delayed. At 9.30 p.m. she dropped anchor in the Lower Harbour, and after being cleared inwards she berthed at Port Chalmers for the night, her mail being brought to Dunedin by the early train this morning. The Waikouaiti camo up to the city at high tide to-day, and ivas berthed at the Birch street wharf to unload a largo quantity of general cargo. She will later complete unloading at Lyttelton and Timaru. THE FERRY SERVICE. The ferry steamer Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.45 a.m. to-day. Passengers and mails connected with the first express for tho south. RIMUTAKA AT COLON. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the, steamer Rimutaka, en route from Southampton to Wellington, arrived at Colon on Sunday morning. The vessel sailed from Southampton on April 13, and is due at Wellington on May 25. SHIPPING TELEGRAMS.
