ANNIVERSARIES. 1839.—Ship Tory loft England with first batch of emigrants for New Zealand. 1864.—Death of Meyerbeer, composer. 1885.—First sod of Canadian Pacific Railway turned. 1889.—Earl of Onslow arrived in New Zealand. Of the total local passenger traffic of Greater London 60 per cent, is handled by the underground and allied companies. British streets are dangerous to children. No fewer than 223 were killed and 9.528 injured in London thoroughfares in 1926. In some American cities certain streets are closed to motor traffic at fixed times to permit children to use them as playgrounds.
