DAMAGES AGAINST NEWSPAPER Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, May 1. (Received May 2, at 10.5 a.m.) A message from Coburg states that after a fortnight’s sensational trial the jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff in General Sir Arthur Currie’s libel suit against the ‘Port Hope Guido,’ awarding him SOOdol as damages. The claim was for 50,000d01. It is understood that the jurymen were for several hours divided—eleven for the plaintiff and one for the defendants. In 1860 King Edward danced in the court house where tho trial was held when he visited Canada as the Prince of Wales.—Australian Press Association.
