AMY EVANS AND FRASER GANGE
DISTINGUISHED SINGERS APPEAR TO-NIGHT The Dunedin season of the popular singers, Miss Amy Evans and Mr Fraser Gauge, will commence to-night iu His Majesty’s Theatre, under the direction of E. J. Gravestock, Ltd. These distinguished artists have achieved an unqualified success in Wellington, and an extra concert had to be given to meet tho heavy demand for seats. The ‘Dominion’ says: “To these islands these cultured singers bring a new breath from tho artistic world on the other side of the Equator. Each is a complete and ingratiating artist in his or her own sphere. Iu a programme selected with care and_iu the best taste, they quickly established themselves, in the opinion of tho discriminating, as vocalists of catholic breadth, and the finest culture. There is never a suspicion of over-" reaching for an effect, or a note beyond their capacity—in each number there is an artistry and rare intelligence which brings out the poetical meaning of the lyrics. It is the art of singing at its best, and the enthusiasm, which was the keynote of tho evening, had, a solid basis of merit in its most refined, artistic sense.” For the opening concert to-night a fine programme has been arranged, Miss Evans’s selections including ‘ Porgi Amor’ (Mozart), ‘ Depuis le jour’ (Charpentier), 1 Wicgenlied ’ (Max Reger), ‘Die Alimacht’ (ScbubertPower), ‘My Lovely Celia’ (Monro), ‘ When E’er a Snowflake ’ (Liza Lehmann'), ‘Me, Company Along’ (Richard Hageman), and the duet with Mr Gauge from ‘ Rigoletto.’ Mr Gauge’s selections include tho prologue from ‘ Paglincci.’ ‘Tranm durch die Daemmermig ’ (Strauss). ‘ Wohin ’ (Schubert). ‘The Two Grenadiers,’ ‘ Figlia I Mio Parlre.’ from ‘ Rigoletto’ (Srliuiiianii). ‘The Sona o’ the Pipes’ (Waldo Warner). ‘Farmer John’ (Waldo Warner). and ‘A Smuggler’s Song’ (Muliinar).
