BRITISH TAXATION
THE BUDGET CHANGES KEROSENE PROPOSAL RESENTED Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright, LONDON, May I. Many members of the House of Commons who have returned from spending the week-end in their constituencies are convinced that the kerosene tax will press heavily on the working classes in country districts owing to the great increase in the use of oil stoves for heating and cooking. Generally the opinion is that the tax cannot be supported, but if it is dropped Air Churchill’s pool will ho depleted to the extent of £2,600,000. It is suggested that Mr Churchill may withdraw the sugar reduction in order to recover the money which a. kerosene concession would cost. —Australian Press Association.
