SUBURBAN TRAINS
RAVENSBOURNB DISSATISFIED “Simply shocking,” was how Or Kay described the running of trains between Dunedin and Ravonsbourne at last night’s meeting oi the West Harbour Borough Council, Many complaints had been received, and it was time that something was done to make an improvement. The council would have to make representations to the department at Wellington. Cr Robb referred to an incident which occurred recently, as a result of which workers reached their employment late. In consequence these men had lost a certain amount of wages. The Government was anxious to encourage railway travelling, but under the present system the traffic was being driven to other channels. The department would have to be urged to recognise its responsibilities. That tho council write to the department for an immediate reply to a former request made by a deputation was the decision reached by members after a lengthy discussion. It was also decided to draw the department’s attention to the fact that men were in the habit of smoking in non-smoking carriages. A further resolution was passed that the department be urged to maintain the suburban train service with regularity, and to improve the service, especially in the running of morning trains.
