CONDEMNED MAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE. LONDON, May I.—Browne attempted to commit suicide in Pontonville Prism (says the ‘ Daily Express ’). He tried to cut his tlivoat with a piece of steel while in heel, inflicting severe wounds one heiti" half an inch deep. A warder on entering the condemned cell notced blood stains on the bedding and .summoned the governor and a doctor. Browne’s- wounds were dressed, and lie was earned in a weak condition to the prison hospital.—Australian Press Association. ' WEST COAST MINES IDLE. AH the West Coast mines were idle to-day as a “ protest ” against the prosecution of the Mlllerton miners for an alleged breach of their award.
